What if you could live again and again, until you got it right?

On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war.

Does Ursula's apparently infinite number of lives give her the power to save the world from its inevitable destiny? And if she can -- will she?

Darkly comic, startlingly poignant, and utterly original -- this is Kate Atkinson at her absolute best.

Not tied together enough for me, April 7, 2013
By Silverinseattle

Although the actual wording of this book was well written, the plot was not woven together enough for me. A brilliant idea that was not well executed. There were too many times where Ursula started a time period over again that didn't make sense. If she learned to not repeat the same mistakes over again purposefully, it would have been more satisfying. Not having caught the murderer was odd as was the final foray into what was her ultimate purpose. How, all of the sudden, did she figure it out? There was nothing to suggest how exactly that all came to light. Super disappointed with this book. Was VERY slow until 1967...which was at 90 percent of the book.
